Marked by a singular aesthetic and a surrealist touch, Bibie Deboosere makes
sociopolitical work with a playful approach. Their films question normativity and queer the
western gaze on the world. They aim to dismantle discriminatory, repressive and violent
viewpoints, proposing ways to imagine things differently. Deboosere’s debut feature
premiered in Bright Future at International Film Festival Rotterdam 2023. Their work has
screened at film festivals as Olhar de Cinema, Tallinn Black Nights,
Africadoc Bénin, Vancouver Queer Film Festival, Kyiv Molodist, Bucharest International
Experimental Film Festival, Queer Lisboa among others. Bibie Deboosere was part of the
2024 Berlinale Talents.
They are now in production of their second fiction feature ‘The Decapitation of Ousmane Sembene by the Commission for Classification of Cinematography (CCC)’.
